The Compassion Forum?

The Democrats have entered new territory.

The arena of faith and its impact on governmental affairs. We have moved so far to the right that this seems,on its face, to be a normal part of public discourse. Gone are the days where one’s faith is separate and private from the state.

It has the appearance of a necessary political move. History tells us that when religion becomes entangled with affairs of the state , it is a Theocracy. There has never been a successful one.

The argument for it , of course, is the state the world is in. It is a compelling one, if wrong headed. It is impossible to live in a diverse country and espouse religious freedom when we have a state that underwrites religion as a moral basis for decisions and circumvents the Constitution. It is a slippery slope , one that bears watching. Hillary Clinton was humble. Barack Obama handled it carefully in the last question.

We must be mindful we are a nation of many religions, and just as our founding fathers knew, there is little room for the state to become enmeshed with any religion or dogma. This might just get interesting if the Democrats continue and McCain continues to ignore or side step the issue.

But then, that may well be the point.

How novel that the Republican candidate is reticent and the Democrats are the first to go for the Evangelical votes. Some may see this as some type of future panacea of bipartisanship, a collective hope of coming together for the greater good. A kind of meet- in- the- middle centrist thinking. It can also mean that as this “debate” goes on, the transparency of this being one party with two points of view will become more noticeable to many.

Americans are bitter towards government, that part is true. Trust in government is at an all time low. What better way to narcotize the masses than with a serving of Wright and his righteous indignation or hate speech, depending on which side of the aisle you are on, followed by the main course a gathering together of both sides to struggle together for all. Compassion.

Under God.
Fairy tales do have their place.
